Seasonal

From Farm to Coast

Santa Rosa is where local farmers and food growers come to share the bounty of the county

California's cornucopia is Santa Rosa with its always-delicious seasonal produce. Pick up a basket of strawberries on your way to an oyster barbeque at the beach... sip a glass of cider made from freshly-pressed apples... enjoy a satisfying dessert of juicy summer berries. Discover for yourself why Santa Rosa is the region's diverse hub of farm-to-table dining.  Farmer's Markets are a local favorite and visitors love them too.

Seasonal attributes of farming here

  • Spring closes out the winter with winter greens of arugula lettuce, chard, collards, asparagus, strawberries and the locally grown artichokes at the Kendall Jackson Gardens.
  • Summer crops include squash, beans, carrots, plums, the area's famous Gravenstein apples and the many berries that are particular to this region, including raspberries, blueberries, and wild blackberries.
  • Fall brings the crush of the vineyards, pears, apples and varieties of tomatoes that are prepared in so many delicious ways at the annual Heirloom Tomato Festival. Many of our fall crops mimic the crops of spring with additions of celery root, baby turnips, colorful cauliflower & broccoli and winter squash.
  • Winter brings out the best in local potatoes with a growing variety of choices that would make Idaho blush.

The locals keep a Farm Trails directory on hand so we can go straight to the farm and pick our fruits and veggies.
