Shopping for Food with Neighbors

Santa Rosa welcomes local farmers and food growers to share the bounty of the county with residents and visitors throughout the region at local Farmer's Markets.

Santa Rosa Year-Round Market
Wednesdays and Saturdays, 8:30 a.m. to noon at the parking lot of the Veterans Memorial Building, 1351 Maple Ave.
Rain or shine. The first Saturday of each month is Children's Activity Day, in which the market provides free crafts projects for kids.

Redwood Empire Farm
Tuesdays and Thursdays, 3:00 to 6:00 p.m. May through Thanksgiving
55 Middle Rincon Road
This historic farm now has 5 acres in production and some unusual fruit trees which were purchased from horticulturist Luther Burbank's nursery. Fruits like figs, Concord grapes, Imperial prunes and quince, peppers, tomatoes, cucumbers, squash, cabbage, kale, beets and broccoli are just a sampling.

One of the most ambitious farms around the store carries 200 varieties of fruits and vegetables, housemade honey, fresh eggs, soaps, flowers, and a huge selection of pumpkins and gourds in the fall.

Cotati Farmer's Market
Every Thursday from May 29 through September 11, 4:30 to 7:30. La Plaza Park: Old Redwood Hwy and West Sierra Avenue. Locally grown fresh fruits and vegetables, nursery stock and flowers, specialty foods, art and crafts and live entertainment. Pony rides and bounce house weekly .

Green String Farm

A sprawling farm, with 50 acres in production, serves as a sustainable agriculture teaching lab for interns from all over the world and sells a wide range of products from organic cheese and grass-fed beef to free-range eggs and preserved jams and sauces made at the farm.

The French Garden Farm sets up a farmstand during brunch on Sundays. The biointensive farm grows a wide range of seasonal produce from peppers and tomatoes, beets and carrots, to strawberries, pears and apples. The farmstand also sells eggs, flowers and starts.

The Tuesday night markets are known as being a great community event. Locals buy food at the market and then have dinner together in the Plaza.
